Killer Toasted Caprese Sandwich

This is my favorite summer sandwich… I call it “Killer Toasted Tomato Caprese.”

Take garden-fresh tomatoes and basil and toast them on sourdough bread with fresh mozzarella and a special seasoning, which this sandwich is named for.

I originally found the seasoning in New Orleans many year’s ago, but you can find that HERE. I have no idea what they put in that seasoning, but it makes for one KILLER toasted tomato sandwich in the summer–I keep this one stocked in my seasoning cabinet every summer.

Lil Urban Farm's Killer Toasted Tomato Caprese Sandwich with tomatoes, basil, and fresh mozzarella on sourdough bread and a KILLER seasoning

Killer Toasted Tomato Caprese Sandwich

TIME:

10 min

|

MAKES:

1 sandwich

HARVEST:

Tomatoes, Basil

INGREDIENTS
2 sliced of sourdough bread
1-2 Tbsp. Mayonnaise
1 medium-sized tomato, sliced 1/4-in thin
Slices of fresh mozzarella
Handful of fresh basil
Sprinkle of Killer Tomato Seasoning or a pinch of salt and pepper

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Take two slices of sourdough bread (or Italian or country-style bread) and spread mayonnaise on both sides (trust me).
  2. Top one slice with sliced tomatoes and sprinkle with seasoning.
  3. Add the fresh mozzarella, basil, and the top bread slice.
  4. Toast in a pan on medium-high heat and remove once each side is nice and golden, crispy. Should take only 6-8 minutes or so, depending on how hot your stove and pan get.
