What the Heck are Tomato Suckers?

Have you heard of a tomato “sucker” and wondered what those are and how to find them on indeterminate tomatoes?

Suckers are the extra growths in between the main stem of the plant and its leafy branches. They allow the tomato plants to spread their vines to create more places to fruit. This may sound ideal, but not always so.

It is muggy where I live in SC, so I consider it to be a necessary to prune those for proper airflow. My plants are always much healthier and produce more abundantly for me.

Some regions have different climate indicators and may not need this—each climate can be different.
