Seed Starting Tips: Use Worm Castings, Not Fertilizer

How to start seeds successfully for the garden.

Tip 2: Don’t fertilize your soil-less mixture. Use worm castings as an amendment.

Fertilize with diluted fish emulsion or compost tea once seedlings get a few of their real leaves.

Why? Seeds have everything they need to sprout and get started. Commercial fertilizers are very high in NPK, which can be harsh and too strong. I take a gentle approach to slowly adding to their feeding routine.

And these tomato plants are now ready for planting in the garden!
