I haven’t showed much of this long, raised garden bed near my deck yet. I started building it in early fall right as my dad was having a major surgery and then complications, so it was completed in multiple disjointed pieces that I didn’t always film. So I thought I’d show this garden bed during the day so people could see what’s growing and how well the system I created is working.
I used a Galvanized Metal Olle Bed with extension panels and I filled it using the Hügelkultur method—fill the bottom with logs and sticks, and topped with lots of compost.

When the cold weather started coming, bringing the freezing temps with it, I got these little cold-frame greenhouse covers and placed four of them side-by-side. They are just slightly too big and overhang the frame a little, but it doesn’t seem to affect it too much.

The first really cold spell we had I added some older C9 incandescent lights to put inside the greenhouses to increase the temp a few degrees—and it works amazingly well!
