Glass Garden Mushrooms That Light Up at Night

Whenever I find cool textured glass bowls at the thrift store, I also look for a glass vase or drinking glass to invert it on top of to make crystal glass mushrooms. Then I take a Dollar Store solar light to put underneath to create little glowing mushrooms around in my gardens.

It’s one way you can reuse thrifted, yard sale, or discarded items and give them new life among the plants and flowers. Plus, they make me smile.

You can use glue to adhere them together, but I’ve always found they come apart over time so I don’t bother.

    GLASS GARDEN MUSHROOMS PROJECT LIST:

    For each mushroom:

    • 1 thrifted textured glass bowl (mushroom top)
    • 1 thrifted glass vase or drinking glass (for stem)
    • 1 solar light (I got mine at Dollar Tree)

    1. Get your solar light ready by removing any tabs that prevent it from use. If it has a base and stake, you can assemble those (though sometimes I don’t use them).
    2. Find a good spot in your garden that won’t block all of the sunlight. Locate an area that is relatively flat.
    3. Place the solar light in the ground (solar panel facing up toward the light).
    4. Place a clear glass or vase over the solar light.
    5. Take the glass bowl and flip it over, setting it to rest on top of the cyclindrical base.
    6. Let the solar panel charge and enjoy your glowing mushrooms in the moonlight.

NOTE: You can try using a strong adhesive like E-6000 or Gorilla Glue to adhere the top to the base, but I’ve found the heat and moisture elements outside break that bond pretty quickly so I don’t bother.
