    Visitor in the Bird House

I’ve got a visitor building a nest in my bluebird house. No eggs or babies yet, but this will be the second set of birds I’ve housed in this little wooden structure.

Bluebirds like areas 4-5 feet high off the ground in unobstructed areas so they can easily swoop in and out without danger or predictors climbing up. They can also be territorial so houses should be at least 100 ft apart. I put mine on top of a pole in the middle of my perimeter fence near the garden, and it works beautifully.

I ordered an outside camera for us to witness, but I’m too nervous to fiddle anywhere inside the house right now. I don’t want to deter the process. So for now we can get an outside view and I’ll install it after this family leaves.

I’ve also heard that moss can be an indicator that a chickadee is squatting in the blue bird house, which we can see here, so this will be fun to verify the comings and going of our little guest.
